CONSTITUTION CLASS VESSEL

Constitution ships offer a combination of maneuverability and firepower, making them excellent platforms to handle most situations thrown at them.

From the designers' point of view, Constitution class ships were originally experimental. Classified Starfleet documents state that the original design brief was for a long-range exploration ship with numerous defensive capabilities. This never fully materialized due to how the Constitution class performed in the field. Ultimately, the ships proved suitable for their role in protecting the Alpha Quadrant and for exploration.
